Mountain Bike Classics in Vorarlberg
63
There are many and more mountain bike tours in Vorarlberg. Some of them are described here (Mellental, Dornbirn, Gapfohl (in german) and Alp crossing and around Bregenz), and one more tour I present here: the way from Frastanz (close to the city of Feldkirch) via Amerlügen to Hinterälpele in front of the majestic Drei Schwestern, a rocky peak.
Your start at the train station in Frastanz is immediately followed by a constant, medium steep paved road to Amerlügen. There is not much traffic, and most of the way is through a dark forest. After 30-40 mins you will reach Amerlügen, a small village with the typical Austrian Alps flair. Take a drink from your water bottle here, and go on.
The next section will lead through a steep forest road and need another 45-60 minutes to reach a sunny plateau just below the Vorderälpele. A great ride for the summer time as you can bet you will stay in the shadow for the whole trip.
From the Vorderälpele you will ride another 20 minutes not steep but upward to the last small hut in front of the Drei Schwestern and watch marmots playing around you.
The way back is a steep downhill drive for 40 minutes, great, rocky, sometimes trial-like, can't be fast enough!
A great mountain bike tour if you're in Vorarlberg.
